Ice counters are a type of counter introduced in Ice Age. They are usually related to ice or snow-themed effects.

Description

Ice counters first appeared on Iceberg in Ice Age. It would enter the battlefield with X on it for however much extra mana is paid to cast it. {3} could be paid to add additional ones while 1 counter could be removed in exchange for {C}.

Coldsnap saw the return of the counter on several cards with varying effects. Rimefeather Owl could add snow counters to a target permanent which causes them to gain the Snow attribute. Dark Depths enters the battlefield with 10 ice counters on it and then could remove a counter for {3}. Once all are removed, it is sacrificed causing a 20/20 black Avatar creature token with flying and indestructible to be created. Rimescale Dragon can tap a creature and add an ice counter to it which freezes it causing it to not untap as long as the counter is on it. The final usage in Coldsnap was on Woolly Razorback which enters the battlefield with 3 of the counters on it. While on it, the creature cannot deal damage and has defender with one being removed every time it blocks.

The counters re-appeared on Thing in the Ice in Shadows over Innistrad as a counter for transforming. It enters the battlefield with 4 ice counters on it and transforms into Awoken Horror when they are removed with one being removed for each instant or sorcery being cast.

In Kaldheim they appeared on Draugr Necromancer which exiles an opponent's creatures that die with a ice counter on it. The player can then cast exiled cards an opponent owns with ice counters on them with mana from snow sources available to be used as the mana of any color.
