Bribery counters are a type of counter introduced in Conflux and later reprinted in Commander 2016 and Battlebond. Creatures with the counters on them aren't able to attack or block.
Description
Bribery counters first appeared on Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer in Conflux. It has an activated ability that places bribery counters on a creature while giving its owner a card. It then prevents the creature marked by the counter from attacking or blocking. This alludes to the creature being bribed to ignore the opponent.
The effect of the counter remains active as long as the placing card remains on the battlefield. The effect goes away if the placing creature is removed from the battlefield but the counters remain where they are. If another of the placing creature enters the battlefield, the creatures with the old counters become affected and once again lose their ability to attack or block.[1]
Trivia
- Gem counters are used as a resource for an ability that matches the effect of Bribery counters for a single turn.
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored orange as its considered a negative effect and shares its icon with Everything, Gold, Influence and Treasure counters.[2]
