oracle:"Luck counter"

Luck counters are a type of counter introduced in Legends. They usually are created by some form of randomness like Flipping a coin or Dice rolling and lead to an alternate win condition or grant a permanent more beneficial ability.

Description

Luck counters first appeared on Chance Encounter in Odyssey. It is an enchantment that would add a luck counter any time the player wins a coin flip. If the number of Luck counters builds up to 10 or more, then the player wins the game.

The counters appeared once again on Gemstone Caverns in Time Spiral with a different usage. This time the counter was used with land in that if the land appeared in the player's opening hand they could begin the game with it on the battlefield with a luck counter on it in exchange for exiling a different card from the player's hand. The land has an ability that by default just gives colorless mana but when a luck counter is on it, it gives mana of any color.

Acorn

In the Acorn set Unstable, Luck counters appeared on As Luck Would Have It. It was an enchantment that gained Luck counters equal to any die roll that was done by the player. If the number of counters hits 100, then the player wins the game.

Trivia

In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and it shares an icon with Awakening, Echo, and Glyph counters.[1]
