Hone counters are a type of counter introduced in Strixhaven: School of Mages. They act as an upkeep tracker on exiled instants and sorceries that can be cast with a lesser mana cost after a few turns.

Description

Hone counters first appeared on Uvilda, Dean of Perfection in Strixhaven: School of Mages. The creature has an activated ability to exile an instant or sorcery card from the player's hand with three hone counters on it. One of the counters is then removed on each upkeep and after every counter is removed, the player may cast the spell for {4} less mana. This represents the player taking time to hone their skill with the spell.
