Growth counters are a type of counter introduced in Mirage. They have thus far been always tied to enchantments and represent some form of increasing effect each turn.

Description

Growth counters first appeared on Malignant Growth in Mirage. It is an enchantment which gains a Growth counter every upkeep. It then allows all opponents to draw a card for each counter while also taking damage for each. The counters appeared once again in Urza's Destiny for Momentum which was an aura enchantment which added a new Growth counter each upkeep while giving the creature +1/+1 for each.

They eventually re-appeared in Ravnica Allegiance on Simic Ascendancy which was an enchantment that had growth counters put on it whenever a +1/+1 counter was put on a creature. It also had an activated ability to create +1/+1 counters. It had an alternate-win condition once 20 or more Growth counters were on it.

The most recent usage of Growth counters appeared on Paradox Zone in Commander 2021. It was an enchantment that entered the battlefield with 1 counter. On the player's end step, the number of tokens would double and it would then create a green/blue Fractal creature token which got +1/+1 for each Growth counter on the enchantment.
