Vortex counters are a type of counter introduced in Alliances.

Description

Vortex counters first appeared on Energy Vortex in Mirage. It is an enchantment with an ability to add vortex counters on it for mana. At the beginning of a chosen opponent's upkeep, they take 3 damage for each Vortex counter until they pay for each. All of the counters are then removed from the enchantment on the player's next upkeep forcing them to pay to add more.

Trivia

• In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and shares its icon with Feather, Velocity, and Wind counters.
• When first printed, Vortex counters were known as Energy counters but were given errata to Vortex counters when the new Energy counters were introduced in Kaladesh.
