Credit counters are a type of counter introduced in Fallen Empires. They are a type of upkeep tracking counter that can be used to gain life.

Description

Credit counters first appeared on Icatian Moneychanger in Fallen Empires. The card initially gets 3 Credit counters in exchange for dealing 3 damage to the player. This acts as the initial Credit or loan of life. It will then gain an additional counter every turn on the player's upkeep which acts as the interest on the credit. The creature can then be sacrificed allowing for the player to gain life equal to the number of credit counters on it which acts as cashing in the credit or loan.
