Void counters are a type of counter introduced in Modern Horizons 2. They have been used for various exile-related effects.

Description

Void counters first appeared on the Dauthi Voidwalker in Modern Horizons 2. It is a creature that makes it so an opponent's cards are exiled with a void counter instead of going to the graveyard. It then has a sacrificial activated ability to play one of the opponent's exiled cards with a void counter without paying its mana cost. The counters represent the exiled cards being in the void with the voidwalker having the ability to cast one.

They appeared once again in Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms on Sphere of Annihilation. The player can cast it with additional mana so it will enter the battlefield with that many Void counters on it. Upon the player's next upkeep, all creatures and planeswalkers on the battlefield and in graveyards with mana cost less than the number of counters are exiled. This represents the cards being annihilated into the void.
