Ghostform counters are a type of counter introduced in Kaldheim. They are related to the planeswalker Kaya and act as a reminder for one of her loyalty abilities. It is named after Kaya's Ghostform, which had her name and has a similar effect.

Description

Ghostform counters first appeared on Kaya the Inexorable in Kaldheim. She has a Loyalty ability which adds a ghostform counter to a nontoken creature. The ability adds a counter and causes creatures to return it to their owner’s hand when they die or are put into exile along with a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying being created. This represents the creature returning to life as a spirit token.

The counter itself doesn’t have any functional importance and is just used to remind the player of the ability the creature gains. Even if that counter is removed from the creature, the triggered ability it gains will still work.
