Gold counters are a type of counter introduced in Onslaught. It has been used to turn creatures into Walls with Defender and later as a resource for an artifact's activated ability.

Description

Gold counters first appeared on Aurification in Onslaught. It was an Enchantment that would cause Gold counters to be placed on creatures that deal damage to the player. They would transform those creatures into Walls with Defender preventing them from attacking. The counters are then removed once the enchantment leaves the battlefield. They reappeared again in Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate on Dragon's Hoard. It is an artifact which spawns a Gold counter on it whenever a Dragon enters the battlefield and can then spend them on an activated ability for drawing a card. The two types of Gold counters currently do not currently interact with each other at all.
