Bait counters are a type of counter introduced in Magic: The Gathering Foundations.[1]

Description

Bait counters were introduced on Fishing Pole as a thematic way of representing a creature fishing. Fishing Pole is an equipment that gives a creature the activated ability which can be used to add a bait counter to the Pole for one colorless mana. Whenever the equipped creature becomes untapped, one of the bait counter is removed from the Fishing Pole to create a 1/1 blue Fish token. This represents the bait on the pole catching a fish.
