Hourglass counters are a type of counter introduced in Invasion. They prevent the untapping of creatures and lands during the unstap step.
Description
Hourglass counters first appeared on Temporal Distortion in Invasion. It was an enchantment that added Hourglass counters on any land or creature that became tapped. The counter would then prevent them from untapping during the untap step. However, all the Hourglass counters on a specific player's permanents would then get removed on the player's upkeep step.
Trivia
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored orange as it's considered a negative effect and shares its icon with Age, Depletion, Delay, Eon, Fade, Hour, Isolation, and Time counters.[1]
