Wage counters are a type of counter introduced in Alliances. They were used as an upkeep tracker to represent an increasing mana payment required to keep a creature under the Player's control.
Description
Wage counters first appeared on Rogue Skycaptain in Alliances. It was a creature that would get a Wage counter for each upkeep as a Mercenary. Then the player would be required to pay 2 mana for each Wage counter on the creature or else it would transfer to the opponent player's control. This represented the mercenary going rogue and switching sides due to not being paid.
Trivia
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and shares its icon with Bounty, Coin, Credit, Hit and Theft counters.[1]
