Vitality counters are a type of counter introduced in Alpha that represents previously taken damage that can be converted back into life.
Description
Vitality counters first appeared on Living Artifact in Alpha and reprinted in various core sets up through Fifth Edition. They were originally introduced as an unnamed counter type which was later given errata to be Vitality counters. Living Artifact was an enchantment that would gain a Vitality counter for every piece of damage dealt to the player. Then during upkeep, an ability could be activated to gain +1 for each Vitality counter removed.
Trivia
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and shares its icon with Fungus, Growth, Matrix, Petal, Polyp, Pupa, Rust and Spore counters.[1]
