oracle:"Reprieve counter"

Reprieve counters are a type of counter introduced in Jumpstart 2022. They can be used to return creatures to the battlefield on their death. This represents them getting a reprieve from death.

Description

Reprieve counters first appeared on the Magnanimous Magistrate in Jumpstart 2022. Five reprieve counters are added to the creature when it enters the battlefield. These counters can be removed on a non-token creature’s death to return it to the battlefield if the number removed is equivalent to its mana cost. The creature must have a mana value of 1 or greater else the counters and effect cannot be used.

Trivia

  • A Reprieve means to cancel or postpone the punishment of someone, especially someone condemned to death.
