Scryfall Statistics

Void is an ability word introduced on cards in Edge of Eternities.[1][2] It represents the supervoids that Monoists revere in the Edge.[3]

Description

Void abilities improve what cards do if a nonland permanent left the battlefield or if a spell has been warped. It is very similar to revolt, but it doesn't include lands and instead additionally counts opponents' permanents for its trigger. It is also similar to descend and morbid.[4] Void appears primary in black and secondarily in red.[5]

Void abilities can take many forms. On sorceries, void may provide an alternative effect, indicated by the word "instead." Void may also provide an additional effect, adding to what the spell normally does rather than replacing it. Many void abilities of permanents trigger at the beginning of your end step.

On permanents, void effects are triggered abilities that trigger only if the void condition is met. That is, the ability triggers only if a nonland permanent has left the battlefield that turn or if a spell was warped that turn. It doesn't matter who controlled the nonland permanent or who cast the spell, and it doesn't matter what happened to that spell after it was cast.

Rulings

  • If a player casts a spell for its warp cost but that spell is countered or otherwise fails to resolve, that spell was still warped, so the condition required by void abilities will be fulfilled for that turn.
  • Some void abilities, such as that of Kavaron Skywarden, are triggered abilities with intervening if clauses. If a nonland permanent hasn't left the battlefield during that turn or a spell wasn't warped that turn by the time the ability would trigger, it won't trigger at all.[6]
