Villain is a job used for evil-doers. It was originally a species before being made obsolete as such in the Grand Creature Type Update.

History

Villain debuted as a black-bordered creature type in Legends, on the card Spinal Villain, but that was replaced with Beast in the Grand Creature Type Update. The Spinal Villain is a sinuous, reptilian, and insect-like beast with elongated limbs, a serpentine tail, and bone spikes along its back ridge.

The type was later reintroduced in Unstable as an acorn class for members and the leaders of the League of Dastardly Doom. In 2025 it became an eternal class with the release of Marvel's Spider-Man.[1] As of 2025, the plan is keeping Hero and Villain more for costumed characters and not for anyone doing heroic or villainous things.[2]

Villain is used heavily in the Universes Beyond set Marvel's Spider-Man to represent Spider-Man's rogues' gallery. It is used in direct opposition to the set's Heroes. In the set, Villains can be mechanically relevant. For example, Doctor Octopus, Master Planner grants +2/+2 to other Villains.

Villain (and Hero) typal is going to be an ongoing theme for future Marvel sets.[3]
