Sable is a creature type used for cards that depict small carnivorous mammals. Sable is a species of marten valued for its fur.

History

The first (and only) creature to bear the type is Bronze Sable from Theros, which is actually an artifact creature. In The Theriad the bronze sables are described as the guardians of the shrine to Karametra.

Sable later also appeared as a type on The Wise Sable, a test card from the 2024 Amsterdam Unknown Event. It is an elder sable judge that references Commander Advisory Group member and Level 3 judge Charlotte Sable.[1]

Trivia

  • Sable has come to also mean black or deep-brown colored in the context of animal fur, which is how Great Sable Stag uses it. Likely due to the difficulty in demonstrating texture in this shade, the stag in question does not properly reflect the shade in question.
