Butterfly is an obsolete creature type which originally only appeared on tokens.
Description
Butterfly debut as a creature type in Visions for the token created by Giant Caterpillar. During development of the Mirage block releases on Magic Online, R&D took the position that reprinting cards digitally allowed them to update the creature types of those cards to better support typal strategies. This resulted in an errata update to Giant Caterpillar so it was an Insect.[1] This errata was eventually physically re-printed as part of Jumpstart 2022 and given its own Butterfly token.
Storyline
Avishkar
The Shadowblayde uses two mechanical butterflies for communication including one known as Mr. Wiggles.[2]
Ixalan
The Oltec god Kaslem is closely associated with butterflies and is often invoked by Oltec upon seeing them in the wild. Her adherents also venerate the monarch butterfly and pattern their vestments and armor after their wings.
