Anemone is an obsolete creature type which only appeared in errata for a short time following the Grand Creature Type Update to represent sea anemone but was later made obsolete in a subsequent rules update to be Jellyfish instead.
History
Anemone was introduced in the Grand Creature Type Update as a creature type for Glowing Anemone which was originally a Beast from Dominaria.[1] However, it was quickly realized that an anemone on its own is a terrestrial flower. Glowing Anemone on the other hand was a sea anemone which are water-dwelling, predatory animals. Sea anemones are in the same phylum Cnidaria as jellyfish so the subtype was changed again to "Jellyfish Beast" in a subsequent errata.[2]
A second sea anemone — Clinging Anemones — appeared later on Ravnica as a Jellyfish as well.
Trivia
- The type never appeared on a printed card since Glowing Anemone has not been re-printed and the type change was undone.
