The year 2025 is the thirty-third year of Magic: The Gathering.[1]

January 14 Release of Chaos Vault: The Strange Sands.
January 24 Release of Innistrad Remastered.
February 2 The MTG Wiki migrates to an ad-free environment hosted by Scryfall.[2]
February 3 Release of Festival in a Box for MagicCon Chicago 2025.
February 10 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Winter Superdrop 2025.
February 11 Magic: The Gathering Arena introduces a player achievement system with[3]:

March 17 Release of Chaos Vault: Cats vs. Dogs. The better selling of the two drops would go on to receive a full superdrop themed around that creature type in 2026.[6]

April 1 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Marvel's Deadpool.
April 11 Release of Tarkir: Dragonstorm.
April 11-13 SCG CON Denver, featuring Magic Spotlight Series Dragons.[8]
April 21 Wizards of the Coast announces Through the Omenpaths, a unique Universes Within version of Universes Beyond sets that will be released on their digital platforms only.[9]
  • Through the Omenpaths cards will be mechanically identical to their Universe Beyond counterparts.
  • The cards will only be available on Magic Online and Magic: The Gathering Arena. They will not be available in paper at the time of their release.
  • Only sets that would otherwise not be able to be released on digital platforms will receive a Through the Omenpaths release.
April 22 Release of Chaos Vault: Adventures of the Little Witch.
April 25 Release of the Spring Flourishes D&D promos at local game stores.[10]
  • Can be obtained by participating in special draft events.
April 29 Release of Alchemy: Tarkir.
May 12 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: The Ultimate Pencil Superdrop.
  • Features two drops in collaboration with Seattle radio station KEXP-FM.

May 19 Release of Festival in a Box for MagicCon Las Vegas 2025.

June 16 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Nuestra Magia.

July 14 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Sonic Superdrop.
July Bill Rose retires from Wizards of the Coast after 30 years.
  • Mark Rosewater considered him to have had one of the biggest influences on Magic by any single person.[13]
July 29 Standard Rotation: Dominaria United, The Brothers' War, Phyrexia: All Will Be One, March of the Machine and March of the Machine: The Aftermath leave the format.
  • This marks the final mid-year rotation of Standard and the last Standard rotation until 2027.[14]

Alchemy Rotation: Wilds of Eldraine, The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, Murders at Karlov Manor, Outlaws of Thunder Junction, The Big Score and the Alchemy 2024 sets leave the format.

July 31 - August 3 Gen Con, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
August 1 Release of Edge of Eternities.
August 19 Release of Alchemy: Edge of Eternities.
  • Includes a templating change for cards that conjure a duplicate card.

Release of Arena Anthology 1 and 2.

September 16 With the Through the Omenpaths pre-patch, the contents of Arena Anthology 3 and 4 are made available for players to craft using wildcards.
September 22 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Marvel's Spider-Man Superdrop.
September 23 Release of the first Through the Omenpaths set on Magic Online and Magic: The Gathering Arena.[9]

September 26 Release of Marvel's Spider-Man, the first Universes Beyond: Marvel set.[18]

September 29 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Squishful Thinking, the Secret Lair drop for Extra Life 2025.
October 13 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Secret Scare Superdrop. Includes seven Universes Beyond drops across four different IPs:
October 27 Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: PlayStation Superdrop. Includes seven Universes Beyond drops, each a collaboration with a PlayStation game franchise:
October 28 The Arena Powered Cube is first run on Magic: The Gathering Arena with a special set of Arena Cube Prize Pack cards.
November 3 Release of Secret Lair: An Encyclopedia of Magic.
November 10 The interim banned and restricted list announcement for 2025.[19]
November 21 Release of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Includes the:
November 26 Wizards of the Coast announces the previously advertised Secret Lair Drop Series: Monster Hunter Superdrop will be cancelled, due to disappointed reactions to the reveal. The crossover superdrop will be reworked entirely with an expected new release date some time in 2026.[21]

After unexpectedly high pre-sales, it is announced that the release date for Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos has been moved from February 17, 2026 to April 7 to accommodate additional printing.[22][23]

December 5 Release of the Final Fantasy holiday releases.[24] The releases include:

Basic Boosters are introduced in Japan with the Final Fantasy Basic Booster.[25]

December 5-7 World Championship 31 held at Bellevue, Washington, USA.[26]
TBA Booster packs for The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth are removed from the Magic: The Gathering Arena store. Players are still able to craft individual cards using wildcards.[27]
