Lore

The Space Marines, also known as the Adeptus Astartes ("Those who conquer the stars"), are foremost amongst the defenders of Humanity, the greatest of the Emperor of Mankind's warriors. They are superhuman warrior-monks who wear mechanized suits of armor and are genetically and surgically modified to enhance their combat abilities. Many Astartes have betrayed the Imperium of Man, however, and pledged themselves to ruinous powers.
