Lemur is a creature type for cards that depict small, wet-nosed primates.
History
Lemur debuted as a type in the Universes Beyond set Avatar: The Last Airbender to represent winged lemurs, which are typed as Lemur Bats due to being lemurs with bat-like wings.[1] The first ever Lemur was depicted on Hyalopterous Lemure in Ice Age. The card was originally meant to be a Lemure - a type of shade or spirit of the restless or malignant dead. However, in a misunderstanding, the artist Richard Thomas thought it was referring to the animal. As this was early in Magic design there was not a team to double-check the art and it slipped through.[2][3] This led the original art to be of a small furry winged creature, while later art depicts it as a malevolent spirit of energy. The name, text, and flavor text on Viscid Lemures were later created to reference this. Lemurs also appear in the art of Surgeon Commander, which features a lemur's head and Preposterous Proportions, which features a giant lemur in its borderless art.
