Symbiote is a creature type introduced for Marvel's Spider-Man.[1] It is used to represent a species of alien ooze-like parasitic life forms that bond with a host body giving them enhanced abilities while also influencing their mind. The type simultaneously made its in-universe debut in Through the Omenpaths 1, where the concept is relatively similar to its Marvel counterpart.
Description
In their depictions in Through the Omenpaths 1, Magic's symbiotes appear as amorphous, spiny, and ordinarily dark-colored masses that engulf most of their hosts' bodies. It is unclear what plane(s) these symbiotes originate from.

Symbiote is a Marvel Universes Beyond crossover type. Symbiotes are an inorganic, amorphous, ooze-like alien species that form a symbiotic bond with their hosts creating a new combined entity. They can alter their hosts' personalities and/or memories, often influencing their darkest desires, amplifying their physical and emotional traits and personality and thereby granting them super-human abilities. The symbiotes can be weakened when in range of extreme sounds or sonic frequencies. They can bond to both sapient species like humans and also non-sapient creatures. Most symbiotes are telepathically connected through a shared hive-mind, though individuals can be cut off from it.
Symbiote can also generically be used to refer to any organism that lives in a symbiotic relationship with another organism so it is technically possible the type could be used more generally outside of Marvel sets though it is not yet known if it will.
Symbiotes were created from the Living Abyss at the beginning of the universe by the primordial deity Knull. Knull acted as the nexus of the symbiote hive-mind during their early existence using them to devour entire civilizations and conquer countless planets. Eventually his connection to the symbiotes was severed during a battle, which caused them to seek out new hosts to give their existence meaning. This had the effect of opening up the hivemind to more benevolent hosts that had traits such as nobility and honor. This led to some of the symbiotes rebelling against Knull and imprisoning him in an artificial planet in the Andromeda Galaxy, naming it and themselves "Klyntar" which was their word for "cage".
