Lore

Tyranids actually comprise an entire space-faring ecosystem comprised of innumerable different bioforms which are all united by a psychic hivemind. They are the ultimate predators; to them, all living things, from the lowliest insect to the most advanced starfaring civilization, are mere prey.

Certain Tyranid organisms known as Genestealers have been known to infiltrate settled worlds, using potent psychic and mutagenic powers to seed entire bloodlines of genetic hybrids loyal to the Tyranid hivemind. These mutants organize themselves into organizations known as Genestealer Cults that foment rebellion upon their host worlds, with the goal of preparing those worlds for the coming of the Tyranid Hive Fleets.
