Through the Omenpaths 1 is a designed-for-digital Magic: The Gathering set released on MTG Arena and Magic Online. It is the first set in the Through the Omenpaths series; a mechanically identical Universes Within version of Marvel's Spider-Man. It was released on September 23, 2025.
Description
Through the Omenpaths sets, introduced in 2025, are Universes Within versions of Universes Beyond sets that otherwise wouldn't be coming to digital Magic platforms.[2] These digital cards will be mechanically identical to their Universes Beyond tabletop counterparts but with unique creative treatments, different art, and different names. There won't be Through the Omenpaths sets mirroring every Universes Beyond set, only the ones that will not be coming to digital platforms (because of digital licensing issues, for example). This allows formats to remain mechanically at parity with one another.
Bonus sheet

The set features an additional Through the Omenpaths bonus sheet. These cards feature the set code OMB and a distorted Omenpath expansion symbol. These correspond to the Marvel's Spider-Man bonus sheet cards, but all use in-universe art (most of which is reused from previous printings).
Legality on Arena
- Through the Omenpaths 1 (OM1) is legal in all formats on MTG Arena.[3]
- The Through the Omenpaths Bonus Sheet (OMB) is a Brawl-, Timeless-, and Historic-legal set, and individual cards are also legal where already available in other formats.
- Through the Omenpaths Limited Boosters contain cards from OM1 and OMB. These cards are playable in Through the Omenpaths Draft and Sealed when opened from Limited Boosters.
Modifications
Compared to Marvel's Spider-Man, Through the Omenpaths 1 features the following modifications.
Flavor
All cards receive new art, many depicting various existing Magic planes.[4] Most cards receive new names that are either setting-agnostic or explicitly refer to Magic settings. Most Flavor words are removed. Legendary creature cards are changed to depict new in-universe characters from various settings.
To contextualize the high volume of Human Spiders in the set, the set features several team-up legends similar to those seen in March of the Machine, depicting human characters allied with spiders. The flavor of Scions of the Ur-Spider suggests that these pairings may be orchestrated by the Ur-Spider, a previously unseen character akin to the Ur-Dragon and Arahbo.
While most cards depict all-new characters, a few cards depict established characters. Hex of Undeath depicts Liliana Vess and Quint's Insight depicts Quintorius Kand. Fire-Brained Scheme is of particular note, as it depicts Chandra Nalaar and Koth in a recognizable moment during the story of March of the Machine, just before the Story Spotlight Coming In Hot. The House Grows Hungry also depicts a moment from the story which did not have a card: the House's consumption of Duskmourn's suns, which was detailed in the Duskmourn: House of Horror side story "Dead End".
Omenpath Flavoring Project
When the set was published, none of its cards had flavor text. Ian Duke would later confirm on the official Discord that the designers were not able to give the set flavor text. As a response, the Vorthos community on Reddit organized a project to assign flavor text to each of the cards in the set whose SPM equivalent had it, headed by the user u/-TvT-.[5] Users wrote original flavor text submissions, which were judged based on certain guidelines, such as resonance with existing lore. The winning candidates were archived, and can be found here.
The project was met with a positive reaction from the community. Writing for Hipsters of the Coast, Ryan Carroll described the project as an admirable creative success, especially considering the absence of supplementary material to contextualize the cards.[6]
Themes and mechanics
Although Harness remains unchanged, the infinity ability is renamed Origin and does not use the symbol.[7] The web-slinging mechanic is renamed to Enweb, but Mayhem is kept the same.[3]
Card types
The set marks the first in-universe use of the Symbiote type. Magic's symbiotes are thorny, amorphous creatures of unknown origin. Like their Marvel counterparts, they can latch onto other creatures, transforming them into monstrous and powerful forms.
For Universes Within, the Infinity subtype is renamed to Terminus.[3]

Notable cards
- Fleem, Goben's Creation, this set's equivalent of Green Goblin, was latched onto as a meme by some community members.[22][23] Jokes centered on the idea of turning Fleem into the game's mascot, with favorable comparisons being made to Loot.[24] In a quick reaction, Wizards of the Coast made available as a purchasable Avatar, sleeve and emote sticker.[25]
- The art of Supportive Parents differs between Magic Online and Magic Arena, with the former showing one of the parents as a merfolk, and the latter showing both parents as humans.[26]
