Hippogriff is a mainly white creature type used for cards that depict flying creatures that resemble griffins, but have the body and hind parts of a horse instead of a cat. The front parts resemble a bird. An example is Razor Hippogriff from Scars of Mirrodin.

Storyline

So far, Hippogriffs have only be seen on Innistrad and Mirrodin.

Innistrad

Gryffs are an elegant, heron-headed species of Hippogriff.[1] They are longer and leaner than the traditional Innistrad griffin, with flexible necks, sleek hindquarters, lance-like beaks, and equine hooves. Gryffs are swift and nimble flyers, natural enemies of dark creatures, and a powerful force for the side of Avacyn and her angels. They are used by human knights as flying steeds. After Emrakul's arrival, some became twisted by the Eldrazi's power.
