Fish is a blue creature type used for cards that depict any gill-bearing aquatic vertebrate animal that lacks limbs with digits. Included in this definition are Lampreys, and cartilaginous fishes like rays, and mantas. Related races are Leviathans and Merfolk. For a while sharks were also typed as fish, but this was later reverted.

The first creature to bear the type Fish was Manta Ray in Weatherlight (though the Devouring Deep from Legends was later issued errata to become Fish as well).

Storyline

Dominaria

A devouring deep was under the command of the wizard Coldraith of Golthonor. In the year 1281 by the Reckoning of the Sages of Minorad, the creature attacked people led by the Marked Cleric. Caliphear the Nightmare and Altair of Coloni forced it to reveal its master was Coldraith. The devouring deep was afraid of merfolk assassins.

Desert rays are sand-colored creatures that inhabit the Sukurvian Desert. They are forty feet long and are related to manta rays. In prerevisionist continuity they were used by the Sand Warriors for transportation.

On Otaria, people used the Slipstream Eel as means of underwater transportation.

Innistrad

When Emrakul was drawn to Innistrad by Nahiri, several fishermen found themselves fused to their prey, creating large abominations that roamed the sea.

Ixalan

The Stormwreck Sea between Ixalan and Torrezon is home to several gigantic forms of fish, like the Fleet Swallower which is sometimes mistaken for an island.

Kamigawa

Skyswimmer Koi swim among the clouds of Kamigawa.

Mercadia

The swamps of Mercadia are home to the Quagmire Lamprey.

Mirrodin

Several fishes on Mirrodin were also airborne. Most lived near the Quicksilver Sea, but many were driven from their homes when the plane became phyrexianized.

Rath

The Rootwater on Rath was infested with piranhas and sharks.

Ravnica

Electric eels live in the sewers of Ravnica's Undercity.([1]

Fish are also a favorite of the Simic in their creation of Krasis.

Shandalar

Kapsho Kitefins are a breed of flying fish that terrorize the people near the Kapsho Sea.

Tarkir

In the old timeline, the zombified remains of large anglerfish could be found in the swamps of the Sultai. These fish preyed on humans.

Fish are cultivated in the new timeline by the Ojutai clan as food for their draconic masters. Some of these can reach tremendous sizes, such as the Ancient Carp.

Theros

The Hippocampi of Theros are creatures that are half-horse and half-fish.

Zendikar

Many fishes of Zendikar do not only live in the water but can also be found living in the sky. One example of these airborne kinds of fish is the Cloud Manta, which breeds in the ruins found across the skyscape of Zendikar and is sometimes tamed by the local merfolk as a mount. Another is the Windrider Eel, which is sometimes used as a mount by kor skyfishers.
