Pilot is a creature class that was introduced in Kaladesh.[1]
Description
Pilots are proficient at crewing Vehicles. Creatures with the type have an ability that cares about Vehicles, but the breadth of design means the abilities can't be summarized easily. There is also an associated Tribal land, Mech Hangar.
Recurrent Pilot abilities have been:
- An ability that is triggered by becoming tapped (four Pilots)
- An improved Crewing capacity (three Pilots, plus four Pilot token makers)
- Granting an ability or stat boost when crewing a Vehicle (three Pilots)
- Passively granting an ability or a stat boost to all Vehicles (three Pilots)
Pilots are primarily red and white.
Notable Pilots
Errata
With the introduction of the type, the decision was made to not retroactively apply it to Goblin Test Pilot from Dragon's Maze because it can't crew vehicles.[2] However, this change was reversed, and the creature type was added with the rules update for Aether Revolt.[3]
