Kotori is a 20-year-old soratami pilot and Futurist from the plane of Kamigawa.
History
From a young age, the precocious Kotori displayed an uncanny talent for piloting. She enrolled in the Futurists' Vehicular Exploration Program to study under the researcher, Katsumasa. He theorized that channeling a kami spirit into a mech would allow its pilot to synchronize better with the machine, resulting in greatly improved control and firepower.[1]
Katsumasa's most trusted protégé, she trained under him for 7 years before volunteering to pilot the Epoch Engine. She established an emotional bond with the kami Shorikai housed inside the mech and exceeded all of Katsumasa's predictions, to the point that the two began referring to themselves as Kotori-Shorikai. But an operation went wrong, and the prototype mech refused to deliver the final blow to a defeated nature kami. Kotori knew the Futurists would destroy Shorikai if it was no longer fully under their control, so the two decided to leave Otawara and forge their path.[2]
