Depala is a talented young dwarf pilot hailing from Avishkar, widely recognized for her exceptional skill in maneuvering various vehicles and her fearless approach to flying.[1] She is affiliated with the Renegades, a group known for its defiance of Consulate authority.[2]
History
Depala's mastery of piloting spans virtually every type of vehicle found on Kaladesh. Her innate aptitude for controlling airships and other craft has earned her the distinction of being the second highest-ranked racer in Ghirapur's competitive airship circuit. She began her career working aboard a mining airship, where her natural talent quickly propelled her from deckhand to skilled pilot.[3]
During the Inventors' Fair, Depala competed with the Derby Crows, a respected group of aeronauts celebrated for their skilled pilots. She participated eagerly in all available races, whether they were officially authorized by the Consulate or not, and became a favorite among spectators. Known for her uncanny ability to sense a vehicle's performance boundaries, Depala pushed her craft to the edge without crossing into danger. Her daring style included flying in extreme proximity to rival ships, and when challenged about her recklessness, she famously retorted, "Only incompetent pilots can be reckless. You calling me incompetent?"[3]
When not competing, Depala collaborated closely with the Derby Crows' inventors and mechanics to enhance and customize her airships. Her successes on the racing circuit inspired other pilots to revisit and upgrade their designs to keep pace.[3]
Depala is also known to keep a pet hyena named Crankshaft, who accompanies her through her adventures.[2]
