Enchantress

Enchantress is an obsolete creature subtype, and a slang term used by Magic R&D to describe the connected ability. An enchantress is a person, often an attractive women, who is skilled at magic and able to easily charm others.

Ability

The "Enchantress" ability (Whenever you play an enchantment, draw a card.) is primary in white, and secondary in green.[1] This ability started in Alpha on Verduran Enchantress. It stayed in green for many years, but has drifted toward white as part of R&D experimenting with white draw in narrow deck themes.[2] It has bounced back and forth between green and white, and now can be done by either. In white, it has the limitation of only drawing one card per turn as that's a new rule for white card drawing. The best ones are probably going to appear in white and green.[3][4]

Card list

Three cards with this subtype were printed:

Verduran Enchantress became a wizard in Sixth Edition, after which they were all changed with the Grand Creature Type Update into Human Druids.

Yavimaya Enchantress (Urza's Destiny) and the white Mesa Enchantress (Planar Chaos) were Druids from the start.
