Army is a black token-only creature class introduced in War of the Spark.[1][2] Originally, it was combined with Zombie, as in Zombie Army.[3]
Description
An army is built from the amass keyword action, which allows you to place a number of +1/+1 counter on an Army you control and create a 0/0 Zombie Army if you do not already control one. The Army functions together much like how R&D makes single creature cards that are flavored as a group of beings.[4]
Amass was designed so you'd control one Army at most at any given time. But there are several ways around that. You could copy an Army you control, or maybe you control a creature with all creature types.
If Amass ever would return, Mark Rosewater considered it a possibility that it would create an Army of another creature type.[5] However, this would necessitate some tweaking of the mechanic.[6] In The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth, Army was paired with Orcs.[7] Older cards received an update to now say "amass Zombies N."[8]
