Fraction Jackson from Unhinged is the only Hero in Magic: The Gathering, following the Grand Creature Type Update. It is, however, non-tournament-legal.

Hero is an obsolete creature type.

Description

Heroes are characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice (heroism) for some greater good.

The first creature to bear the subtype was Benalish Hero in Alpha, followed by Kjeldoran Warrior and Beast Walkers. When Aysen Crusader was printed it powered up these three heroes. However, the Hero-class was obsoleted in the Grand Creature Type Update, and rather than Heroes, the Crusader now gained a bonus from Soldiers and Warriors instead.

The only card remaining with the subtype Hero is Fraction Jackson from Unhinged, as silver-bordered cards are allowed to have creature types not supported by black-border. Hero was reinvented as a card type as part of the Hero's Path of the Theros block.

• A cycle of flip cards in Champions of Kamigawa was nicknamed Heroes. They represented the journey from Average Joe to Legendary Creature.
