Hyena is a creature type formerly only used for Gibbering Hyenas in Mirage. Hyenas were made Hounds in the Grand Creature Type Update, but that was reverted in the Update from the Grand Update, probably for taxonomic reasons.

More recently, Trusty Companion has been featured in Kaladesh, indicating that this is now a proper creature type. Hyenas are therefore now represented in both green and white. Amonkhet would later introduce hyenas in red via Hyena Pack.
