Some types of cards, supertypes, subtypes or mechanics have been removed or changed either because of flavor reasons or rules modifications.

Obsolete keywords
Some keywords still exist but got replaced by better concepts and will therefore probably never be reprinted.
- Fading, replaced by Vanishing
- Fear, replaced by Intimidate, replaced by Menace as black/red evergreen evasion ability.
- Shroud, replaced by Hexproof
- Regenerate, replaced by Indestructible (until end of turn) [1]
Other obsolete mechanics
- Flip cards, replaced by double-faced cards.[2][3]
Obsolete concepts
- Batches, replaced by the the stack.
- Bury, replaced by destroy and sacrifice
- Damage using the stack
- Mana burn
- Mana cost symbols

- Phase abilities. Some older cards used the phrase “during [phase], [action]. Replaced with abilities that trigger at the beginning of a step or phase.
