Planeswalker type

A planeswalker type is any subtype used for the further classification of planeswalker cards.

Description

Like creature types, they are generally not optional and are most of the time more flavorful than mechanically important. There are two cards that interact with the type: Deification and Leori, Sparktouched Hunter. Planeswalker types served a function similar to the legend rule, the planeswalker uniqueness rule until that rule was removed as of Ixalan.

Each type is either the first, last, or sole name of the character. The card name also encapsulates the type, with three exceptions of The Royal Scions, Professor Onyx, and Grand Master of Flowers. Two planeswalkers, the Wanderer and the Aetherspark, have no associated planeswalker type.

Notes

  1. On her retirement from Hasbro, Deborah Thomas was given at least one celebration card made in her image as a Planeswalker.[1][2] Because the card features a standard Magic card back, and a regular holofoil stamp instead of an acorn stamp, this is an Eternal legal card according to the Tournament Rules.
