Host is an acorn supertype with no inherent functionality. Instead, it serves as an identifying characteristic, and is closely tied to cards with augment.[2][3][4]
Description
Host appears on creatures in Unstable and Unsanctioned.[4] All host creatures have an enter ability which becomes a repeatable triggered ability when the host is combined with an augment. The condition for the triggered ability depends on the augment.
Host creatures have a vertical split running down the left side of the card. Their card name is split by a fissure, the art is divided by a metal bar, and the left-hand side of the text box is illustrated as a note tacked onto the card.[2] When augmented, the augment covers and replaces the left-hand side of the host card, changing the name, type line, and text box.
Unlike the supertypes basic and world, but similar to snow, host does nothing other than identify host creatures. It enables the augment ability, and is referenced by a small number of other cards.[5]
Host and augment are "pretty close" to being printed in black border.[6]
