Cyberman is an creature subtype introduced for the crossover Doctor Who set.[1][2]
Description
The Cyberman type is used to represent a race of humanoid cyborgs who are created via a process called cyber-conversion, the physical and mental re-engineering of organic lifeforms, often humans and humanoids with similar biologies, into Cybermen.
Cybermen are created by creatures being turned face down, similar to a morphed creature. They become a 2/2 Cyberman artifact creature with no name and no color. To indicate this, a Cyberman overlay card has been introduced.
Lore
This article or section discusses story elements that are not canonical. |
The Cybermen are a species of space-faring cyborgs who often forcefully and painfully convert human beings (or other similar humanoid species) into more Cybermen in order to populate their ranks while also removing their emotions and personalities. Their bodies appear to be covered in metallic suit though they may have some internal organic components including the brain of their original self. Variations of Cyberman have evolved in parallel on numerous worlds often as a result of a desire for immortality gone wrong.
Rulings
- If, for any reason, the face-down creature is turned face up, the effect making it a Cyberman ends. It will be whatever is printed on the card.
- The player who controls a face-down permanent may look at it at any time. Notably, if the cards were put on the battlefield face down from another player's library, the player that owns them does not get to look at those cards.
- Double-faced permanents that are already on the battlefield can't be turned face down this way. However, a double-faced card can be put onto the battlefield face down from another zone this way.
- If the face-down card has a morph ability, its controller may turn it face up by paying the associated morph cost.
