Time Lord is a creature subtype introduced for the Universes Beyond set Doctor Who.[1] It is used to represent a nearly immortal race of sentient humanoid beings from the planet Gallifrey who are sensitive to time and have the technology to travel through it. Time Lord is the only official two-word creature type.[2]
Description
The creature type is used for cards that depict the Time Lords of the Doctor Who franchise. It is the first two-word creature type (since the Grand Creature Type Update).[3] In the past, there would have been a hyphen added between the two words (as with Assembly-Worker), but this was probably prevented by copyright issues. It also needed to function as a single type for several cards to work.[4]
Rules manager Matt Tabak said "Time Lord [is] the first multi-word creature type. Neither “Time” nor “Lord” are or will be creature types. This is a special case. I wouldn’t expect other multi-word subtypes outside of planes in the foreseeable future."[5] Time Lord is not meant to be a precedent.[6] Time was introduced in the same set as a planar type instead.
As of Modern Horizons 3 Time Lord is singled out in the Comprehensive Rules: "One creature type is two words long: Time Lord. All other creature types are one word long."

Time Lords are an ancient and technologically advanced race from the planet Gallifrey. They resemble Humans in appearance but have two hearts and are nearly immortal, able to transform into a new healthy physical form on death in a process known as regeneration. Time Lords are sensitive to timelines, being able to see "all that is, all that was, all that ever could be," but also "what must not [be]". They are known for the creation and attempted monopolization of time travel technology. While at the peak of their power, they had a policy of non-interference and enforced laws of time. They considered the preservation of history the highest moral law. Time Lords had a great place in the mythologies and cultures of other civilizations, being outright called "The Gods" by several species.
