Butterfly

Butterfly is an obsolete creature subtype which originally only appeared on tokens.

History

Butterfly debut as a creature type in Visions for the token created by Giant Caterpillar. During development of the Mirage block releases on Magic Online, R&D took the position that reprinting cards digitally allowed them to update the creature types of those cards to better support typal strategies. This resulted in an errata update to Giant Caterpillar so it created an Insect token named "Butterfly" instead.[1]
