Slug is a creature type used for cards that depict snaillike terrestrial gastropods without a shell. Most of them move by slowly gliding about. They appear in green, black and red. The first creature to bear the type was Giant Slug from Legends. Other examples include Spitting Slug from The Dark and Molder Slug from Mirrodin.

Thermopod from Coldsnap is a Snow Creature and an exception to the rule that slugs are slow. Slicking the ice with its heated underside, the it skates at great speed to overtake its prey.
