Octopus is a creature type used on cards that depict tentacled sea creatures.
Description
The octopus is a venomous cephalopod that prefers a solitary nature in the sea. Their most notable features are eight tentacular arms that symmetrically radiate around a hard beak. Their primary defense mechanism is to flee while ejecting an ink cloud into the water. Many octopuses are known to employ natural camouflage to help elude intruders. They are not to be confused with the closely related nautili, squids or kraken. Octopuses are intelligent creatures but lack the sapience of their humanoid versions the cephalids.
The first creature to bear the type was Giant Octopus from Portal and Starter 1999. It was followed by Lorthos, the Tidemaker from Zendikar, Sealock Monster and Godhunter Octopus from the Theros block, and Elder Deep-Fiend from Eldritch Moon. Since then, other octopuses have seen print. Not much mechanically or flavourfully separate octopi from squids or kraken, with the average octopus being mid-sized in cost and body, larger than squid and smaller than kraken.
