Guardian is an obsolete creature class. Guardians are creatures that guard, protect, or preserve.
The first creature to bear the type was Guardian Beast from Antiquities. The subtype was obsoleted in the Grand Creature Type Update.
Other Guardians include:
- Harbor Guardian (Mirage) (now a Gargoyle).
- Opal Acrolith (Urza's Saga)(which now becomes a Soldier).
- Fountain Watch (Mercadian Masques) (now a Human Cleric).
- Hydromorph Gull (Torment)(now an Elemental Bird rather than a Guardian Bird).
Ivory Guardians used to give a bonus to all Guardians. It now gives the bonus to just "creatures named Ivory Guardians".
On Ravnica, the Simic Hybrids are also known as "Guardians".
