Fate counters are a type of counter introduced in Mirrodin. They act as a marker on a permenant for the use of another ability.

Description

Fate counters first appeared on Essence Bottle in Mirrodin and re-printed in various other sets. The artifact had an ability to add Fate counters to permanents and another to sacrifice itself destroying all permanents without Fate counters. The counter type re-appeared again on Triad of Fates in Theros where it had an ability to place Fate counters on creatures and other abiltiies to exile those creatures either temporarily or in exchange for drawing 2 cards. Both types of Fate counter do not currently interact at all with each other.
