Sleep counters are a type of counter introduced in Legends. They act as a freeze effect on creatures.
Description
Sleep counters first appeared on Venarian Gold in Legends. It is an Aura Enchantment that is placed on a creature which taps it and adds a number of Sleep counters to it based on the additional mana cost paid for casting the enchantment. For as long as the sleep counter is on the creature it does not untap. One of the counters is removed on the controller's upkeep step. This represents the creature being put to sleep until the counters are removed at which point it wakes.
Trivia
- Sleep counters are similar to Stun counters with the difference being Sleep counters are removed during the upkeep step rather then acting as a replacement effect for untapping.
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored orange as its considered a negative effect and shares its icon with Music, Scroll, and Verse counters.[1]
