Pupa counters are a type of counter introduced in Legends that acted as a delayed power-up for a creature.
Description
Pupa counters first appeared on Cocoon in Legends originally as Change counters before they were given errata to be Pupa counters. Cacoon is an Aura enchantment that taps the creature with 3 Pupa counters on it. The creature remains tapped while the counters are on it with one being removed each upkeep. Then after all are removed, the enchantment is sacrificed and the creature gains a +1/+1 counter and flying. This represents the creature being frozen in the cacoon for several turns until it emerges stronger.
Trivia
- Pupa by definition is the life stage of some insects undergoing a transformation.
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and shares its icon with Fungus, Growth, Matrix, Petal, Polyp, Rust, Spore and Vitality counters.[1]
