Petal counters are a type of counter introduced in Urza's Saga that built up and were sacrificed for mana.

Description

Petal counters first appeared on Lotus Blossom in Urza's Saga. It was an artifact which got a Petal counter added on it each upkeep. It then had a special activated ability that could be activated as a mana source to sacrifice it to create mana of one color for however many Petal counters were on it. This represented the petals of the lotus being cultivated for mana.
