oracle:"Verse counter" |
Verse counters are used by a set of enchantments from Urza's Saga and their successor in Modern Horizons, as well as one creature from Magic 2015.
Description
The enchantments that use Verse counters are part of two cycles (one at uncommon and one at rare):
- Uncommon cycle: Serra's Hymn, Lilting Refrain, Vile Requiem, Torch Song, and War Dance
- Rare cycle: Serra's Liturgy, Recantation, Discordant Dirge, Rumbling Crescendo, and Midsummer Revel
If a player controls one of these enchantments during their upkeep, they may put a verse counter on it. The enchantment can be sacrificed for an effect multiplied by the number of verse counters on it at the time of sacrificing.
Yisan, the Wanderer Bard was printed, which, although it functions differently than the enchantments, uses verse counters to reflect the musical theme of the card.
Aria of Flame from Modern Horizons functions in the direct tradition of the earlier enchantments.
Trivia
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and shares its icon with Music, Scroll, and Sleep counters.[1]
