oracle:"Enlightened counter"

Enlightened counters are a type of counter introduced in Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. They act as a memory aid for an ability but on their own have no actual effect.

Description

Enlightened counters first appeared on The Book of Exalted Deeds in Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. The legendary artifact has an ability which exiles itself and places an Enlightened counter on an angel. Alongside this, it also creates Angel creature tokens each turn if the player gained more than 3 life.

The ability that adds an Enlightened counter also gives the ability “You can’t lose the game and your opponents can’t win the game.” to the target angel. The creature keeps the ability even if it later stops being an angel or if the counter is removed. Transferring the counter to another creature does not grant the ability. The counters only serve as a memory aid to the player.

Trivia

In Dungeons & Dragons, the Book of Exalted Deeds is considered the supreme written authority of goodness and virtue in all the multiverse which is why it creates Enlightened counters and is associated with Angels.
